Working on a website
« on: January 08, 2009, 01:50:40 AM »

I have been playing with Dreamweaver for a little while and tried to find multiple free hosting sites, and finally came upon one that allows me to use my own coding (I tried things like Zoomshare first, and they did not work out very well for me). I recently finished the site, and am wondering if I could get some advice. They have a forum at the hosting site, yet the amount of people there makes advice seem rather vague (although I am asking for advice there as well)....
This is the site, and I would greatly appreciate any help at all. I realize that the pictures are hard to see (I need to learn how to ink), for which I apologize...

Not bad, it fits the simplistic style of the comic I suppose.

Not to seem like a dick, but are you really paying a monthly fee just so you can put up drawings of a butterfly knocking a guys hat off?

I like it so far, the interface is nice and simple. What I would say is that it seems a little spartan. Try messing about with small images for the buttons, maybe an easy-on-the-eye background image/pattern?

Other than that, it's going well.

I doubt he is, because it's in a sub-domain.

The site is simplistic, but not ugly, and seems to fit the comic. You do need to separate your stylesheet from your semantic mark-up and work on cleaning up some of the superfluous tags (you have an empty <p> tag, for example), but I assume those are there because you're using a WYSIWYG.

If you ever want someone to code your site by hand, you know where to find me. Or go through the codes you have and pick out the extra stuff. I'm not picky when it comes to work, lol.

Have you improved your website abilites to make the site I approached you with a while ago?

Because I'm still interested in that.

I could probably put it together and install WordPress to get the interactivity you want. I'll have to read into it a bit more and see how WordPress works.

Thank you guys very much for the advice so far. I am not paying for the domain, by the way. I will try finding a nice image for the background and a non-italic font (it seemed nice at first, yet I can see how it can be annoying). I also was not coding by hand at first, since I used Adobe Dreamweaver for the basic layout and CSS, although once I transferred it to my computer I had to start coding by hand, which is why I'm really glad someone noticed that I had an empty <p> tag.
Once again, thank you very much for the advice so far, and I apologize leaving right after making the thread (I had to go to sleep).

EDIT: I apologize for bumping (if modifying a post bumps a thread), although I have done a few things to make it look somewhat nicer, although I still have a few issues here and there. I have also tried inking from my computer, with the current comic being the only one inked so far (just seeing how it looks). I found a few of the superfluous tags and removed them, along with separating the CSS from a few mark-ups. I'm still working on finding a good font family too. Thank you guys very much again for being kind enough to help me out so far....

Editing does bump the thread, but as long as it's relevant then don't worry about it :)

No reason to apologize, I was just curious because if 25kb seems like a lot than you must have either craptacular bandwidth or disk space.

I think it is mainly because I've worked on nothing but a Windows 98 until about 2 Months ago, and am used to a smaller disk space even though I am no longer as limited....
Also, I think I found the empty paragraph tag you mentioned earlier yet I'm not sure if it was the same one. Was the one you were talking about in the sidebar?
