Alright gents, I fixed my computer. I drove on down to Fry's to pick up
a new nuclear fuel rod
three 3'' fans, a new graphics card to replace the scorched one and a new power supply because mine was only 300 watts what the fuck. When it came to installing the fans, the first went into a grate made for installing a fan just that size, so that went along well enough.
However, the case was small and so poorly ventilated that there was literally no were else to put the other two. Or so my computer case thought.
With some careful measuring and expert use of a Dremel and a power drill (The two tended to get hot after a certain amount of use and needed to be switched) I had my second fan grate.
The real problem was the third fan. The right side was already pretty much covered in the fan department, The left didn't have the room and is actually riveted to the rest of the case, so that was out. The front and back had various bits and bobs in use that they weren't happening. Looked like a fan up top to blow the hot air out was the best idea. Unfortunately the space between the power supply and the disc drives made it impossible to stick another fan anywhere near there, but I mean, I payed a whole 6 dollars
for this thing, so I have to use it somewhere right? So out comes the power drill and the tin snips. I cut up a 3'' hole on the top, filed it down so it wasn't a forest of metally death splinters and mounted that motherfucker on the outside of the case by drilling in a few holes for the screws and nutting them to keep it stable.
