Yeah, I would honestly just find somebody you know who has a host and try to make a deal with them. Finding a good host is usually a very difficult job. I know Smith was offering me to host off of him before, so I would suggest asking him about a host. Usually, hosts have varying rates and make terrible offers like pay way too much for hosting and get a domain free. So host hunting is usually incredibly difficult, since there's not much to compare it to. Ask around to a lot of people you know who have hosts and see what kind of rates you could get if you share with them. Like I said, I pay 20 bucks a year, but that's probably one of the best prices you could get. Some people are usually cool enough to host it for free as long as you pay for the domain name. It really honestly depends on the people you know more than anything else.
OK NEXT. You're planning to use Comicpress, right? First you need to install Wordpress. Really good hosts will usually have an automatic installation feature for Wordpress, but if you've got a shit host, then you'll have to install Wordpress manually, which isn't too hard. The most difficult thing to do would just be making a database, and they have plenty of instructions on how to do it on their website. Honestly, though, get a host BEFORE you do anything else.
Also also, if you're gonna be at a convention, then just mentioning your drunkduck page is perfectly acceptable.
