I'm not entirely sure if it's my dumb human brain that's hardwired to be skeptical (appalled even) of the thought of a world like that or if it's just whatever, but if that vision were to come true, all human accomplishment and advancements would mean nothing. They would be hollow. Without turmoil (even the slightest amount) or strife, appreciation doesn't exist, and it's my belief that without appreciation, there is literally no point to anything.
As an engineer, I do think that the world can be a better place through upgraded integrated systems and scientific literacy, but the humanist in me is screaming.
Edit: Now that I think about it, some dialogue from Mass Effect comes to mind (lol): The Reavers, being absolute creatures of technology, literally engineered from the genetic ground up, cannot continue to exist. This is because although their technology has made them an incredible force to be reckoned with, they lack the aspect of culture. Culture and technology must be able to exist and grow in tandem, otherwise that race will die out rather quickly.
This is essentially the problem I have with that short story.

So hey, Attack on Titan is pretty fucking amazing. I watched the first 5 episodes that are out so far, and I had to track down the source material. I did, and it is glorious.
